ileen Mary Elizabeth Basset (nee Wale), was born in Croydon on the 28th of October 1889 the daughter of Dr George Wale and his wife Emily Maria (nee Guinness). She was baptised in Croydon on the 3rd of December 1889. Her father was a surgeon in general practice in High Street, Croydon.
On the 10th of October 1914 she married Richard Augustin Marriott Basset at St John?s in Croydon. They had two children, a daughter Mary born in 1917 and a son Michael born 1921.
In 1924 they were living in West Barn in Field Lane in Frimley. They later lived with his Grandmother Emily Fry at Grovefields in Frimley, before settling into their home for the remainder of their lives at the Drum & Monkey Cottage in Field Lane.
She travelled widely. In 1924 she was in Gibraltar and after the death of her husband she spent time in Singapore.
Her husband Richard died at their home in Frimley on the 7th of November 1954. Eileen continued to live at the cottage in Field Lane, Frimley until her death on the 9th of May 1974. Her ashes were buried at Frimley on the 15th of May 1974.
