He married Lucy Thornely of Dodworth Hall on the 27 Aug 1810. They had 8 children, Helen 1811, Thomas Edward 1813, William Thornely 1815, Robert Thornely 1817, John Thornely 1819, James Thornely 1821, Francis Howard 1822 and Frances Thornely. He secondly married Marianne Hawksley in Kenilworth Warwickshire on the 12 Feb 1827. He died on the 1st Nov 1870 and was buried at St Mary's
